Sketchwork: Garlicing the ink
Another sock sketch!

No socks for the next day though. I was working on adding some bots for my blog and I think I have a new favorite pen. It's just one of those free pens with medicine names stamped on it.

I just realized I've never thought of using a pencil to sketch when working with ballpoint pens. I tried using one on my next drawing here and I think the result was a lot cleaner.

They say that using a pen directly will help you think before putting anything on paper, cause unlike pencils, you can't erase them easily. I kind of latched on that idea too much and forgot the awesomeness of pencils. I guess this technique depends on the kind of drawing you are making after all.
So now, I do the basic shape with a pencil then complete the rest with a ballpoint. Sometimes, I get carried away with the details though.

You know that kind of edge wherein there is hardly any outline? That's what I've been trying to do with these garlic sketches. I kind of stumbled upon it on my last sock sketch. I think the pencil did the trick.

It still needs a lot of work though.

Varying the line weight also seem to help.

Eventually, the garlic was taken away from me. So here's a garlic-inspired creature instead.

This last one is somewhat unfinished. I was experimenting on cross hatching - using longer strokes to define the form or something like that. I still haven't gotten it right so more experiments to come!
